Bangladeshi market is a very interesting market for ecommerce and has a huge catch-up potential compared to the big online market of country like India. Both countries are very similar in terms of revenue per habitant, internet penetration and GDP growth. However, India has a way bigger e-commerce market share. This only means that Bangladesh should foresee the e-commerce platform grow rapidly in the coming years.
The Managing Director of Daraz Bangladesh Ltd., Benjamin de Fouchier invited everyone to visit daraz.com.bd during this event and said, “I know how important Pohela Boishakh is for Bangladeshi people. This is why we wanted to organize the biggest sales of the year during this period. Our team has been working very hard to bring the best deals in the market across all categories for the customer”.
He also pointed out that; Bangladesh is the perfect country for e-commerce. It has a huge population base compared to its area size, which should make the delivery easier. There is also a very interesting fact about Daraz BD. Half of the orders are coming in from outside of Dhaka, where customers don’t have access to the same offers or convenience like the big city dwellers. This means, the products are not reaching the consumers but the demand exists. Outside of Dhaka there are not many big shopping malls and this makes the value proposition of e-commerce even more attractive than the developed countries like Europe or the US. Another interesting fact is that, more than half of Daraz’s traffic is on mobile. With the continuous increase of the smart-phone penetration, this can only increase.
Jonathan Doerr, the CEO of Daraz Group shed some light on why this event would be a unique one- “We have the experience and international knowledge on e-commerce. Along with quality assortments, we also provide customer protection. I believe, in the near future, e-commerce will be the driving force of the nation’s economy. Hence, we would like to urge people to embrace the advantages of e-commerce. Let this year bring you comfort in online shopping.”
Every month Daraz is growing at double digit percentage number, and new competitors are arriving every day. This shows the big potential of the market and the appetite for ecommerce in Bangladesh. If the growth is consistent at this rate, in the near future, e-commerce will be the major driving force for Bangladeshi economy.
